🇵🇸 Foreign Minister Submits Response of State of Palestine to the ICJ in The Hague
THE HAGUE, Wednesday, October 25, 2023 – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Riad Malki, took a significant step today by submitting the second written response of the State of Palestine to the Registry of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, Netherlands. This submission was in response to the ICJ’s request for information related to the nature of the long-term colonial occupation and the responsibilities of states in addressing this illegal occupation.
Malki, in his submission, underscored the paramount importance of the ongoing legal process and the pursuit of accountability. He emphasized that this is particularly vital in light of Israel’s continuous violations of international law, which have escalated tensions and further complicated the situation.
Furthermore, Malki revealed that the State of Palestine had received the Court’s official memorandum specifying the date for the commencement of oral arguments, scheduled for February 19. He reaffirmed the State of Palestine’s commitment to participating in these oral arguments and expressed their readiness to present their case on the designated date.
In a call to action, Malki urged member states of the United Nations to come forward and declare their intent to present oral arguments before the ICJ. He highlighted the ICJ as the preeminent international judicial body, underlining its significance in addressing critical matters of international law.
The submission of the second written response marks another milestone in the State of Palestine’s pursuit of justice and accountability in the face of the prolonged occupation. As the international community continues to observe these developments, the world watches with anticipation as the ICJ prepares to deliberate on this pressing matter, offering hope for a peaceful resolution in the region.
