eHalal GroupMany are outraged. Outraged by the genocide in Gaza. By bombs targeting civilians, schools, and hospitals. By global military escalation. By the bloodshed and displacement of millions of people. By the propaganda promoting “military readiness” and a “defensible” Germany. By arms deliveries and the profits of the defense industry. By the planned reintroduction of conscription. By the automatic killing through AI-controlled drone strikes.
Too much outrage.
Yesterday, this anger erupted.
The target: defense company ThyssenKrupp.
Three trucks were set on fire, and a warehouse was torched at the ThyssenPlastics facility in Berlin yesterday.
Why ThyssenKrupp?
ThyssenKrupp profits through its subsidiary, ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS), earning billions from building warships of all kinds. These include submarines, corvettes, and frigates produced in Hamburg, Kiel, and Emden. TKMS is Germany’s only provider of submarines.
Since 1993, TKMS has been producing Dolphin-class submarines for Israel, which are equipped with nuclear-capable cruise missiles. To vertically launch cruise missiles or ballistic rockets, TKMS developed a Vertical Launching System (VLS), which is used on Israeli Dolphin-class submarines. Their primary area of operation is the Eastern Mediterranean, where these submarines form Israel’s nuclear second-strike capability in the event of an attack.
In 2022, TKMS signed a new deal with Israel to manufacture Dakar-class submarines. This €3 billion contract includes the delivery of three submarines, the establishment of a simulator in Israel, logistical support, and spare parts delivery. ThyssenKrupp is investing €250 million in its shipyard to facilitate this, including the construction of a new shipbuilding hall and fuel cell manufacturing. The German government is contributing €540 million to the costs and has invested over €850 million in Israeli companies, including those in the military sector, as part of an industrial cooperation agreement. Allegations of corruption have been made against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in connection with the €3 billion deal, as his cousin and personal legal advisor, David Schimron, also legally represented ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems in Israel.
In May 2023, Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and Atlas Elektronik, a subsidiary of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems, launched their latest joint development for anti-submarine missions. Atlas specializes in AI-based deep-sea sonar systems. It is a key player in developing and manufacturing integrated sonar systems for submarines, mine-hunting ships, combat ships, and torpedoes. Israel Aerospace Industries is a pioneer in unmanned systems for air, land, and sea operations. The world’s first unmanned underwater drone, Blue Whale, was developed by IAI for the Israeli Defense Forces, and in recent decades, IAI has been a trailblazer in robotic ground systems and unmanned ships.
The genocide in Gaza showcases the harsh reality of AI-based military technologies: tens of thousands of dead, wounded, traumatized, and mutilated civilians, including children. ThyssenKrupp profits from this genocide and other wars.
