Alaska

The Alaska Marine Highway System offers ferries between various places in southern and eastern coastal Alaska as well as to Bellingham (Washington).

California

Small water taxis along the waterfronts of San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Marina del Rey, Long Beach, Newport Beach, and San Diego.

Bay Area

Ferries run from San Francisco to a variety of locations around the bay, including Vallejo, Oakland, Larkspur, Alameda, Sausalito, and Alcatraz. Future locations include Redwood City, Treasure Island, Richmond and Berkeley.

Los Angeles

  • Island Packers runs from Ventura and Oxnard to Channel Islands National Park.
  • Catalina Express Catalina Island (Avalon) to San Pedro, Long Beach, and Dana Point.

Hawaii

There is limited ferry service between different islands of Hawaii. The three only islands with regular ferry service are Maui, Molokai and Lanai.

New York

New York City has some ferries running between the boroughs. The Staten Island Ferry runs 24/7 every 30 minutes. There are a network of smaller lines that connect Manhattan to New Jersey, Brooklyn and Queens, run by NY Waterway and New York Water Taxi. There is also service to several offshore islands, as well as to New Jersey, Massachusetts, and from Long Island to Connecticut.

North Carolina

 Ferries from the NC Department of Transportation offer service to several destinations. Parts of the Outer Banks can only be reached by ferry or private boat.
