Bangladesh has announced its participation in the 19th Malaysia International Halal Showcase, which is celebrated as the world’s largest halal expo.
This event, which opened on Tuesday and is set to conclude on Friday, is being hosted at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre. Sponsored by the Ministry of Investment, Malaysia, Trade, and Industry, and the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), it has brought together 1,040 companies, representing themselves through 1,800 booths covering a range of sectors. These include food and drinks, modest fashion, e-commerce, Islamic finance, fintech, and many more.
Bangladesh has proudly set up its pavilion, where 16 premier companies are being represented across nine booths. These companies have been chosen and are being overseen by the Ministry of Commerce, Bangladesh, the Export Promotion Bureau, and the Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur.
The high commissioner of Bangladesh to Malaysia, Mohammad Golam Sorowar, graced the pavilion with his presence this Wednesday. He reflected on the vast potential and exponential growth of the halal goods industry. While Bangladesh, being a predominantly Muslim nation, has not fully tapped into this booming market, there’s much hope and potential for the future.
With the global halal trade estimated at $2.3 trillion, and a projection to reach a whopping $3.6 trillion by 2030, Bangladesh has a vast market to penetrate. “Even securing 1% of this market could mean $36 billion in trade opportunities for Bangladesh,” emphasized the high commissioner.
The fair was also honored by the visits of Anwar Ibrahim, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, and Dr. Ahmed Zahid Hamidi, the Deputy Prime Minister. Both leaders commended the potential of Bangladeshi products, signaling a bright future for Bangladesh in the halal sector.
Among the Bangladeshi companies participating are Bombay Sweets and Company Limited, Agroverse Limited, Tahminas, and many others. These businesses represent various industries ranging from food to IT and handicrafts.
The 19th MIHAS is not just a trade fair but an initiative. With its focus on innovative and sustainable practices, it seeks to lead the local and global business community towards a prosperous halal economy. Furthermore, its reach is not just confined to the ASEAN region. It is truly an international event, with participants joining from trade commissions, government agencies, and business communities from around the world, the release concluded.
